Jacksonville Game 2008

Daryl: 10/19/07:

Could Russell Crowe be the good luck charm the 4-1 Jacksonville Jaguars need to topple the 5-0 Colts Monday night in Jacksonville??

After 5 years of being last on the National Rugby League ladder in Australia it took just one season for the Russell Crowe "effect" to put his South Sydney Rabbitohs into the playoffs. Souths have a sister club arrangement with the English Superleague club, The Leeds Rhinos. The Rhinos won the European Championship last weekend after a best wishes speech from Russell.
The University of Michigan was struggling when the US college football season started, so Russell paid a visit to his friend, Coach Lloyd Carr for the Notre Dame game and they have not lost a game since.

In addition to all of this the team Russell is co-owner of has a rabbit as a mascot and we all know that rabbits are known to bring luck and are closely associated with magic.

Could there truly be a "Russell Crowe Effect" that brings luck? I guess we are about to find out because Russell is coming to Jacksonville as a guest of ESPN Monday Night Football. This will be the second time in a month that the oscar winning actor has visited the city and will mean that it will be less than 3 months before he returns with his South Sydney Rabbitohs team.

I know the Jaguars are very capable of beating the Colts with their great defense and the new quarterback, but I think everyone is also up for a little "magic" if it is offer??

Go Jags!!!!!!

Again thank you all for your support in purchasing tickets to this historic event.

Air Travel = For those needing Air Travel in the USA to get to Jacksonville we are in negotiations with a potential domestic air carrier that will be our preferred partner and sponsor of this event. I will update this as soon as we have more news.

Accommodation = We are working with 4 or 5 hotels in Jacksonville that will be our preferred partner hotels. We will pick a good range based on Budget and Location in an effort to make sure as many people as possible can enjoy some time in Jacksonville. We are doing our best to make sure that ALL hotel rooms come with breakfast included.

Tickets = We are still finalizing the last of the BIG sponsors so ticket printing may be delayed a week or so BUT we will keep you updated on the progress and still plan on having them mailed to you in November.
We are also trying to get an informational flyer to accompany the tickets with some basic Jacksonville info on it and some key numbers and options that may be helpful to you.

Post Event = We are getting closer to announcing the venue for the post event function. Given that the $15 entry fee is being paid to get in, we are also hoping to get some specials on drinks, etc.

Many of you have been asking about the band/concert. There is no update on that and at this stage and we CANNOT confirm that a concert will take place.
It has not 100% been ruled out yet but we are not at a point to say one way or the other. If this changes I will make sure I get this info out ASAP.

The South Sydney Story = Those of you in the USA can watch the documentary on Russell Crowe and Peter Holmes a Court about the take over of Souths and the great success they are having along the way. It runs on Versus TV network and we are into the third part. It runs on Wednesdays with various reruns at other times. See the top of the main page at http://www.versus.com/

Other sites = A great site for all your Russell Crowe updates AND tons of the event stuff is http://www.murphsplace.com/ and just click on Russell Crowe. You can always keep with us at www.jaxaxe.com

Fionn MacCools reminder = Fionn MacCools has come on board as the ticket sponsor and they told me this week that the back of the ticket will have a coupon printed on it for 2 (yes two) free domestic draft beers with any food purchase of $10 or more. We hope you can all get to Fionn MacCools during your stay in Jacksonville. (http://www.maccools.moonfruit.com/)

Again thanks to all and we look forward to more updates very soon
