Thanks to Audrey:

Ingrid Hill, the author of Ursula, Under, a book with the Russell "mentions" has this to say:

"You are the VERY FIRST person ever to mention the Russell Crowe motif, which I think a bit weird in itself, given that the book has been out for almost two years!! Thanks for spreading the word, too.

At first I just imagined this from the inside (I was inside Joe's head, and Joe was thinking this, so I went with it) but then I determined to see every film Russell Crowe had ever made, to be thorough..."

How Amy came to write her novel:

In 1999 I was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. The first movie I saw after being placed on medication was The Insider. Since at the time I was in the midst of a nervous breakdown, the fact I was able to enjoy the movie was a miracle in and of itself. I fell in love with his performance. And when Oscar time rolled around I was excited to see that he was rewarded with a nomination. However, I'm a writer and even though I was in love with him as an actor I went dry and spent five to six months writing nothing as I tried to stabilize on my medication.

But the trailers for Gladiator woke the slumbering creativity inside of me and I was inspired to write a 134 page story. If I hadn't been in love with Russell before I was in his debt forever as my ability to write had returned when I didn't know what I was going to do.

I suffered a second nervous breakdown a year later and used Russell's movies from losing my mind. As I recovered I continued to write. I feel I will always have a special place for A Beautiful Mind in my heart because he gave a performance in which you truly felt the pain of the one with the mental illness without making them seem like a burden or an idiot. He captured the pain and stigma that goes along with having the mental illness.

I owe him a lot as a human being and as a fellow artist. I really would like the readers to know that he inspired the hero of Stone Ramsey.
