My Hand My Heart - My Thoughts

If god asked me too, I'd do it all again.
I wouldn’t long for something else,
or change a single thing.
You can't eat your pride,
or cleanse your soul of what is you.
I’d rather regret the things I've done,
than the things I didn't do.

When I listen to the album, the strongest sense I get is that of reading chapters in a book of life - an immigrant's struggles; the cry of a sinner to his God; a man asking why he is seen a certain way; the violent deaths of family; a man's love for his wife; a lament and memory of old drinking friends; and a rousing fond tribute to an old larger than life friend.

The arrangements are always interesting and different and essential to the presentation of the lyrics. I particularly liked the Celtic background tones of Mr Harris and the solo that ends the last song.

The voice is plaintive, with the crack of the old Carter country songs. It makes me want to listen again, and remember myself the days of my life.
