I attended Danielle Spencer’s recent concert on 10/21/10.  I went there with my friends, Danielle from Holland, Susi from Indonesia, and Sheri from the States.  We had all come to Sydney to attend Ben Hur and see Sydney.

The concert was held at the Raval.  The Raval stage is in a side room on the second floor of the Mc Quarrie Hotel, located in the Surrey Hills Section of  Sydney, Australia.

Luckily for us it was just a block and a half away from our hotel.

The Raval room looked more like a salon found in the palaces and noble houses of Europe than a night club. The seats consisted of couches and chairs. It was a rather intimate place.  By the time the concert started –there were also people standing in the back and some on the sides.

Dani’s mother Julie was in the audience. She sat just behind me and to the side.  We talked with one another for awhile that night. She seems like a very nice lady.  There was a couple who have been following Dani’s career for years who had chairs in the front of the center stage. The room was filled—as the concert was sold out.  I met a fan who works with artists and was taking photos during the warm up act. I did not see Keith or Russell. Apparently someone had to stay home to baby sit.

Bruno who is usually associated with TOFOG manned the sound board. Except for what I thought was a brief moment of feedback—the sound was impeccable.

The concert started with a young man who sang and played the guitar. His set was pleasant.  He was a very good guitarist. He had a wonderful personality.

Shortly after he went off the stage the curtains reopened and revealed Danielle and her friends. Danielle sat at a keyboard.  She had two women vocalists sing with her along with some musicians.  They all were talented, seemed to really enjoy each other , and enjoyed what they were doing. Later in the evening Danielle introduced her mates.

The style of her songs were all varied—and were good to listen to. Many spoke of experiences. Her recent CD “Calling All Magicians” was on sale at the concert.

Dani and her artists sang songs from the new album as well as many other songs. One of the songs was dedicated to a friend out in the audience.  The audience showed its appreciation many times. In fact when the concert was concluding the audience response was so good Dani and the others came out for an encore and sang one more song.   I really enjoyed this concert.

Afterwards Dani did join the audience and met people. I had seen her in Austin in 2001 when she opened for TOFOG. I have seen her at premieres and most recently when Russell received his star on the Walk of fame. I have even stood next to her –but had never spoken to her before.

Because of my conversation earlier in the evening with her mom – Her mom introduced us. She signed a CD as we spoke and we posed for a photo together. She was so kind and  friendly to me. I found her to be very down to earth person. When we posed for the photo –I was just standing there for a moment—when Dani pulled me closer to her and the photo was taken with her arm around my shoulder. The photo is not included with this article.
