I try to make sure my meals are healthy so I can feel okay about having something indulgent each day. I don't believe in being fanatical. I try to keep a balance between being healthy but still enjoying the good things in life. How often do you exercise and what do you do? I try to fit some form of exercise into each day, even if it's a 20-minute walk and five minutes of yoga. I don't like going to the gym – I prefer yoga, swimming and walking. What daily rituals make you happy? I enjoy the ritual of eating, and try to ignore my phone and take the time to appreciate mealtimes. Not always possible, of course! Describe your perfect Sunday. Sleeping in, followed by a leisurely breakfast. We really enjoy taking the kids on a great coastal track that takes about an hour, followed by lunch at a little restaurant on the beach. For feeling and looking great I swear by... Drinking lots of herbal tea, green tea and water. I also get a facial when I feel the need. Where is one of your favourite places in the world? Centennial Park in Sydney. I love walking there. It makes me feel peaceful, centered and relaxed. Who is your best friend? I have a number of people that I would consider best friends. Some are now living overseas unfortunately but I travel a lot so we manage to catch up pretty frequently. Those that live in Australia I manage to see more regularly. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I wish that I was one of those people who can operate well on little sleep. I would love to be able to get by on five or six hours a night. I've always been a person who really needs their sleep. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I wanted to be a dancer and a singer. I started out professionally as a dancer and then moved into singing and acting. I was always heading in the direction of the performing arts. What's the biggest goal you've achieved? Aside from having my two boys it has been writing the songs for my albums, White Monkey and Calling All Magicians. The task seems overwhelming at the start of the process and you wonder if you'll ever pull the material together. It's a relief when you finally have a body of work that hangs together as an album. What would you spend your last $50 on? A good book or two. You're having a dinner and can invite six famous people from the past or present – who would you choose and why? If I could extend it to seven people I think it would make an interesting dinner party to have Henry VIII and his six wives all at the same table. Describe the best meal you've ever had. My mum's roast dinner. There is something very comforting in the simplicity of a good roast prepared by your mother. What's the one thing you want to do before you die? I would love to see my grandkids as adults. Age: She's 41 |
