Thanks to Cindy: Some places which are mentioning the 'must see' AG trailer. http://www.chud.com/index.php?type=news&id=10592 "the film's trinity of greatness"....oh ya, I can dig it!!!! (that's my 70's talk, can ya dig it?) (AMERICAN) GANGSTER TRAILER, GANGSTA BOOGIE Knocked Up aside, this summer’s been pretty disappointing for me thus far, so I find myself already looking to the traditionally meatier Fall schedule where one film towers above all others for me: American Gangster. From the moment I first heard of the film’s central trinity of greatness – Denzel Washington, Russell Crowe, and director Ridley Scott –to the subsequent casting announcements of supporting gems like Common, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Idris Elba, and John Hawkes, I only become more and more excited for the mano-a-mano cop vs. crimelord tale set in the 70s. Although the common practice these days is to maximize your enthusiasm level at “cautiously optimistic,” I say fuck that and let’s expect greatness. With that being said, the only question was how soon would a trailer arrive, and it’s been answered. Thanks to a tip from stalwart chewer Brian Henne, we know the trailer’s up in beautiful QuickTime over at Yahoo, and it’s a doozy. It starts with Denzel leading his crew through the streets of Harlem and relating an anecdote that puts the racial element of the film front and nature. Denzel’s playing real-life drug lord Frank Lucas, a heroin operator in the 70s who became notorious not just for being such a big-time dealer, but also a black man bypassing traditionally white and Italian channels to secure his dope. He was the first “Nino Brown”, using his wealth and Robin Hood-esque legend to endear himself to the community, even as he destroyed it with his main product. The rest of the trailer elaborates on this as we see Denzel solidifying his home base while Crowe, as the cop hot on his trail, attempts to alert incredulous superiors that a lone black man has somehow broken the criminal world’s glass ceiling. Hell, why bother reading another word? Go here now to see it for yourself. http://www.3www.cinematical.com/2007/06/06/ridley-scotts-american-gangster-gets-a-trailer/ Ridley Scott's 'American Gangster' Gets a Trailer The first trailer for Ridley Scott's American Gangster has arrived online with a sweet inner-city '70s vibe and what looks to be another outstanding performance from Denzel Washington. Rarely do we get to see Denzel play a bad guy; although he won an Oscar for his role as corrupt cop Alonzo in Training Day, he usually stays away from the part of villain and, instead, caters to those who would rather see him play the hero. Not the case here; Denzel looks bad. But not in a "wrong guy to meet in a dark alley" kind of bad -- I'm talking the "flashes a bright smile before he shoots you in the face" type bad. Based on a true story, the film revolves around an up-and-coming druglord (Washington) and the tough cop (Russell Crowe) who attempts to not only put this guy out of business, but also convince those around him that a black man is capable of becoming more powerful than any of the five Mafia families in New York City. Gangster marks the third Ridley Scott film starring Crowe; the first of which (Gladiator) won all kinds of awards, while the second (A Good Year) just sort of melted into the background (perhaps because it didn't feature Crowe killing anyone with his bare hands). With an exceptional supporting cast that includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cuba Gooding Jr., Josh Brolin, Common and RZA, look for Gangster to have some talking Oscar once it arrives in theaters on November 2. http://www.slashfilm.com/2007/06/06/must-watch-american-gangster-movie-trailer/ Must Watch: American Gangster Movie Trailer American Gangster is one of those movies that just crept right up on me. I swear, I hadn’t heard a thing about the flick before the Scarface influenced theatrical movie posters dropped. Yeah, I know - it’s a Ridley Scott film (Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven), I should be playing more attention. But now that we have our first look at the film, in the form of a movie trailer - I’m excited. The film is based on an article from Mark Jacobson, about a drug lord who smuggles heroin into Harlem during the 1970s by hiding the stash inside the coffins of American soldiers returning from Vietnam. The film also stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Josh Brolin, Armand Assante, RZA, John Ortiz, John Hawkes and Ted Levine. Check out the trailer after the jump followed by the official synopsis." |
