From Cindy:
My notes on
Russell being on the Jeff and Jer show in LA this morning.
Remember
when they did the phone interview? The female DJ said she'd play Testify every day if he'd come to the show when he was in SD. This was one
of the best interviews ever ever ever, he was on for about 40 minutes,
talked about the band, the movies, the family and the band even sang
an impromptu a capella version of Mr. Harris.
Darren Percival will be the opening act for the shows.
They asked him about the Oscars. He said it was the best Oscar show
he'd ever been to (tongue-in-cheek). He was at the Beverly Center with
Dani and Charlie while everyone else was on the red carpet, took him
about 4 minutes to get into his tux, showed up at the venue at 5:10,
went on at 5:40 and was out of there by 5:44, with a short stop for
a 2 minute talk with Jack Nicholson, went back to the hotel and got
into his track suit and watched the rest of the show with Charlie on
his knee.
He was very happy with the Crash win.
They asked about the two Oscar thing, he said, No, just the one. They
all said he should have gotten one for The Insider and ABM. Then asked
about CM, was he really pissed about that because he should have gotten
nominated. He said he thought Cinderella Man was the best thing he's
done.
They asked if the family goes with him on location, they discussed that. Then
he mentioned they didn't come down to SD with him because he wasn't going to
wake them at 5:45 to get down there just to satisfy Laura's fantasy (female
DJ), he said "I'll do that by myself."
One of the male DJs mentioned how much he liked "Mr. Harris" and Russell asked
if he knew the story behind it. They didn't so he's telling the whole story,
starting with being in Mexico working on M&C. Now they're doing an impromptu
a capella version of it, it's giving me goose bumps.
This is a really terrific interview, I hope someone is able to save it for
Darrin.
He got goose bumps and hairs rising on the back of his neck as they were flying
into SD this morning and saw the Surprise docked in the harbor. Now is talking
about the filming.
One of the radio station guys, Randy, typed out a scene from Gladiator and
wanted to read the scene with Russell. Randy is going to read Maximus
and Russell is reading Commodus, in a soft lisping, mincing voice. They're
doing the My Name is Maximus...scene. this is a riot.....
THey asked if he'd done a comedy, he spoke briefly about A Good Year.
They asked what was the best part of being Russell Crowe. Being married to
Danielle Spencer and her being such a lovely mother to Charlie. He's known
her since she was 18. She's known for not liking to get up early in the morning.
He had a 5:45 wake-up call this morning and she woke him up with a kiss. That
was splendid, just splendid.
One of the DJs said he'd like that and Russell said he thought Danielle might
be free on Saturday.
Now he's talking about the music...going way back.
Damn, this is a really long interview. I HOPE to God someone is capturing this.
One of the best I've listened to in a long time.
Taking phone calls. First fellow asked about acting process for John Nash.
Second fellow asked about Rosarito, Russell is talking about Ricky's Bar they
used to go to and getting him a new stereo because of the ticky tacky one cobbled
together from old speakers with shitty sound and too loud and over- amplified. Russell
told the owner he'd make a deal with him - Russell would buy him a new stereo
if he (the owner) wouldn't play it so loud.
Now they're talking about the meeting with Renee in SD and discussing CM when
he was bald and fat.
Mentions A Good Year again. Not sure when it opens, they are screening it for
buyers etc. A brief mention of the movie with Nicole. Not signed yet but he
wants to do it, it's very expensive.
Male DJ very impressed with the Mr. Harris story because he values his friends
that much and he enjoyed hearing about the love between Russell and Richard.
The fellow wants to close out by playing Raewyn because he just loves that
song, so Russell is now telling him the Lachlan Dew/Charlie Crowe/Raewyn story.
You can hear a pin drop in the studio.
Now they're playing Raewyn.
