There is an almighty modern day battle for hearts and minds being waged in Nottinghamshire and beyond this week over the fate of Sherwood forest.

Sherwood: the Living Legend has made it to the final shortlist of just four contenders to win £50million in the UK's biggest ever Lottery giveaway put to public vote.

Environmentalists, politicians, historians, foresters, local communities and a huge army of BBC's Robin Hood's fans are gathering forces to muster up support for the bid. Thousands of pagans have also joined the quest as the forest is a sacred site to them.
