Suggestions for TOFOG Tour - 2011

From Russell at Twitter: Theoretical first date is May 10th 2011 theoretical last date June 4th 2011.20 shows.

This will take a couple of tweets, the city list (so far, still being debated) is this.. Dallas,Houston,Austin,NO,Nashville,DC,Philly (cont)

Pt 2 Boston,NY,TO,Chicago,Minneapolis,Winnipeg,Saskatoon,Calgary,Vancouver, Seattle,Portland,SF,LA(Thanks, penny)

Anyone on here from Philly?Lolafalana?Choosing tour venues, feel Electric Factory probably too big 4 May tour, suggestions at around 1000 cap?

[ed note: If you like, you fans from Philly who don't Twit can e mail me with your suggestions. I will post here or pass along to Russell]

We suggest the Keswick Theater in Glenside,PA (just over the city limits) or in N.J at the Scottish Rite Theater Collinswood,NJ. Both are locations Great Big Sea have played. There is also the Tower Theater in Upper Darby,Pa (again just over the city line)--it's not a good neighborhood but it is more accessible. There is also the Electric Factory in center city Phila. but there are only a few seats in the upper balcony +bar area but unlike August 2001 when TOFOG played there it should not be so hot.  It literally is an old factory and has no A/C just fans for ventilation.  It's a venue geared towards young adults, room for dancing etc. and a large bar.
There is a House of Blues in Atlantic City,NJ--not a bad commute & very familiar to Phila--also plenty of hotels & access by road, train, bus or small airport in AC itself. The Tweeter Center in Camdeen ,NJ can be sectioned off for smaller audiences.   There are tons of colleges& universities in the area--many of them rent out theater/auditoriums--West Chester University's  Asplundh Hall  Immacculata University, Villanova,St Joseph's, Cabrini,Temple, and the University of  Pennsylvania have multiple campuses at Brandywine,Great Valley etc. Not sure what size venue TOFOG would be looking at--- hope this helps.
Please pass along our glee that TOFOG will be playing close to our home--my sister & I have travelled to New York city, Chicago and San Diego as well as Phila (2001) and enjoyed all the people we met along the way.
Thank you Mary for all of your work to keep us up on Russell & TOFOG's doings--we don't post on the internet but we do read almost daily.  We also appeciate your warning if something is negative in nature-because then usually we don't care to read it. Russell is a favorite actor& musician--so following him is something we do for enjoyment, negative writers need not apply--so again many  thanks---Beth & Winnie Allen, West Chester, PA

World Cafe Live or Theatre of the Living Arts (South Street) should be the right size.
(Electric Factory may work, though slightly big at 1500)

Really hoping for TOFOG in Philly!!!!!!

From Elizabeth: Check out the State Theater, in Easton, Pennsylvania, zip code 18045. Sitting capacity is about 1,500. 1,000 on the floor and 500 balcony. This area is easily accessible to the New York and New Jersey area. Kevin Bacon and his brother also came to this theater.

Hope to see you there. I'll bring my friends!!!

The Trocadero is a great spot. - From erin

The Sellersville Theatre is about 30 miles north of Philadelphia.  It's often used for WXPN concerts and would be perfect for TOFOG.  Theatre seating, very nice restaurant next door.  WONDERFUL sound system, no bad seat in the house.

I live in the Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton, PA area...about 50 miles north of Philadelphia (easy access).  There is a NEW venue opening up IN MAY 2011 in Bethlehem PA on the site of the old Bethlehem Steel works...near the new Sands Casino and hotel.  It will be called SteelStacks, and will house a lot of different venues, as well as the local tv station, and will be the main stage of Musikfest next Summer.

Here is a contact person/number (from the website) for that venue, which might be a great one for TOFOG as they could be the OPENER of this new venue.
