Avril's Report on the Westwood Premiere

Mara and myself really enjoyed the premiere, both the movie itself and the atmosphere (this was my first ever attendance at a Hollywood premiere - Mara has done it all before!)

The film was compelling stuff, gritty and well done. I spotted Dave Oliver in one scene - he plays a barman. Alas I missed the ending damnit as I had go do what a gal has to go do, but hey, what can you do?! But Mara filled me as soon as I got back to my seat.

Ending credits mentioned Judy Dickerson. Ben Foster and Kevin Durand were sitting in the row just across the aisle from us and Russell and Dani were sitting some rows further behind.

The audience gasped, laughed and clapped at the end and I think the movie received a pretty good reaction (maybe a given of course, as all the cast and crew were in attendance!)

No Peter HaC in attendance though. But I did see Keith (who gave me a kiss) with his girlfriend, Russell, who gave both Mara and myself a wave and a smile on the red carpet, Dani, Dani's mum, Vince Pizzinga, George Freeman, Mickey, and of course the other stars of the movie. James Mangold in particular seemed to be quite a gregarious guy, talking to all and sundry in the foyer after the screening.

We saw Vinessa Shaw in the ladies room and she looked beautiful wearing a lovely evening gown. Although Russell and Dani were casually attired there were many lovely dresses to be seen all around.

After the screening there was an after-party apparently (in addition to the Palomino party), which had supposedly been put together only this same day - maybe in response to the story in the press that they were cheap-skates and weren't running to an after-party? (Lionsgate seem to be a bit slow in their promotions but maybe they're catching on).

It was great to finally meet Darrin in the flesh and to catch up with Carol and CGee again too. As far as I could tell there were not many other fans who I recognised at the event but of course they may have been there and I just didn't see them.

Mara took a cool shot of the big billboard above the theatre that had the new yummy Yuma poster on. Can't wait to see that one!!

Anyway, I'll have to stop here as I have to go catch my flight home soon. I've had a wonderful 3 days in LA this trip and would extend a huge thank you to Tamara for being my guide and buddy while I've been here.

Now I just have to wait until September 14th to see how the damn movie ends!!
