Clive Owen clipping from The London Sunday Times Culture magazine section dated 20 December 1998 The Echo -- Clive Owen and Joely Richardson The EchO BBC1 9PM Told
by his editor to interview wealthy Amnanda Powell (Joely Richardson)
for an article on London's homeless, Mike Deacon (Clive 0wen) a self-destructive
hack becomes suspicious of her motives in paying for the funeral of
a vagrant visionary who died in her garage, convinced that he was really
her estranged husband. On the evidence of this first instalment, the
BBC's latest Minette Walters adaptation is A compilation of clichés
- the frosty but vulnerable rich blonde, her smoothy lover, the cocky
hack, his nerdish sidekick -- sustained solely by Owen's irresistible
swagger. Or have the characters cunningly been made seemingly readable
so as to take in the viewer? Only tomorrow's final part tell. |
