The Lease Up: According to Keezer, Unstoppable, which begins filming next week, will soon be joined by two other high-profile film projects in Pittsburgh. Love and Other Drugs, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway, begins shooting at the end of September, and Next Three Days, starring Russell Crowe and directed by Paul Haggis, begins filming in October. But if Pennsylvania lawmakers don't come to an agreement on the budget soon, ambitious projects like these could be taken elsewhere. Last week, filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan moved production of his supernatural thriller Devilfrom Philadelphia to Canada due to the budget impasse's potential effect on the film tax credit. - Thanks, Maria

Sight and Sound Reel Insider: In the rumor category -- "Reel insider - (Aug 3) News of a Bullitt remake has been circulating for years, with Wolfgang Peterson as director, and Brad Pitt to star in the Steve McQueen role. However, nothing has come of it so far. But one of our contacts claims he has heard the script is finally ready to go out to actors for reading, and the name that's first in line is Russell Crowe. Could a Bullitt remake work with him? We have our doubts. In other remake news, the push is on to get Dirty Harry remade with, of all people, Keanu Reeves, and Bryan Singer will direct Excalibur. - R Kaasbraden " - Thanks, Cindy

From Russell: "The piece from the telegraph is not correct. While it is correct that V8 supercars have stepped forward and signed on to be a sponsor of South's, I won't become the "face " of V8 supercars.  I have voiced their TV commercial for the Bathurst 1000 (our version of Indianapolis, except that it is a street race not an oval circuit ) and some documentary tidbits they will play during the build up to this years race."

The Washington Post: Rating High on Hollywood's List: Immature Audiences -- "...Consider: Russell Crowe couldn't get tushies in seats for "State of Play" or "Body of Lies," the latter of which featured the added catnip of Leonardo DiCaprio. Julia Roberts didn't coax oldsters off their couches to see "Duplicity." Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and Tom Hanks didn't tip the scales for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "Public Enemies" or "Angels and Demons." (And most of these movies had the benefit of strong to favorably mixed reviews.)"

NY Times: Don Hewitt, Creator of ‘60 Minutes,’ Dies at 86 -- ... In what he later regarded as one of the darkest periods of his career, Mr. Hewitt capitulated in 1995 to CBS’s demand that he kill a “60 Minutes” piece based on interviews with a so-called “insider” from the Brown & Williamson tobacco company. The insider, a former Brown & Williamson scientist named Jeffrey Wigand, had provided “60 Minutes” with evidence that the company had systematically disregarded evidence on the dangers of smoking. The network, which was in the process of being sold to Westinghouse, worried that the broadcast could expose CBS to billions of dollars in potential liability, because it could be perceived as abetting Mr. Wigand in breaking a confidentiality agreement he had signed. Among those sharply and publicly critical of Mr. Hewitt’s acquiescence were Mr. Wallace, the correspondent on the segment, and Lowell Bergman, the segment producer. Mr. Bergman’s defiance was memorialized by Al Pacino, who played him in the film “The Insider,” based on a Vanity Fair article about the episode. In his 2001 memoir, Mr. Hewitt said his hands had been tied by the network’s lawyers. He recalled telling Mr. Wallace, “Look, the only way to get this story on the air is to go out and hire a bunch of guerillas and take the transmitter at gunpoint.” “Failing that,” he wrote, “what could we do about it? We could quit, of course. But I had spent too much of my life making ‘60 Minutes’ what it was.”

Times review of The Insider -- "...And Russell Crowe, a subtle powerhouse in his wrenching evocation of Mr. Wigand, takes on the thick, stolid look of the man he portrays."

He was 86 and also had a home on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

The Independent UK - Pandora: Crowe is bowled over -- Last time we heard from Russell Crowe, he was in a huff over unflattering reports of the size of his girth. Happily, he appears to have cheered up. We hear that the Antipodean beefcake has struck up a surprising friendship with waggish cricket commentator David "Bumble" Lloyd. "[Russell] stopped me on the way out of Lord's and told me, 'I'm filming Robin Hood. I'm doing it in a Yorkshire accent," Lloyd boasts to Zoo magazine. "I said, 'Are yer?' He said, 'Yeah, I've got to develop a Yorkshire accent.' I didn't tell him I'm actually from Lancashire. Maybe he was looking for a voice coach." - Thanks, Christine

Pittsburgh Post Gazette: How do parents get excitable young boys, most of whom are too young to read, to memorize dialogue and sit for hours on a Saturday in a hot office Downtown? It's simple: ask them if they want to be movie stars. That was what roughly 50 parents did yesterday at an open casting call to find a 5- or 6-year-old boy to star opposite Russell Crowe in a film shooting here late next month. Truth be told there was something in it for the parents too -- the chance, however remote, that they could turn the natural abilities of their boys to exaggerate, ham it up and try new things into cash and fame - Thanks, Steph

The SMH: Commanding Lead (Oscar Isaac) - "...Raised in Miami, he moved to New York when he was accepted to study at Juilliard, the US’s most prestigious acting school. "That’s where I learnt all the accents," he quips, referring to his Portuguese inflections in Balibo, his spot-on British in Agora and his "posher rolling ‘R’ British accent as the vile King John" in Robin Hood. "It’s fantastic," he says of the blockbuster, being directed by Ridley Scott. His co-star, Russell Crowe, who plays Robin Hood, was "incredibly generous’’. ‘‘I was surprised, and I shouldn’t have been, at how process-oriented he is. You know, people can take offence at his tactics about how to get the most out of people but it’s really about getting the most out of everyone, collectively." - Thanks, Steph

This Is Derbyshire: Hollywood film star Russell Crowe comes to Derbyshire - According to residents in Ashbourne, the star was so taken by Porter ale, made by the town's Leather Britches brewery, he and a group of friends drank all of nearby Callow Hall hotel's stock. And when he found out the tipple was brewed just a mile or so down the road, Russell and his group decided to visit the brewery themselves. The Wrap: 10 Things I Learned This Week -- 1. Ridley Scott is to direct the “Alien” prequel, and that can only mean one thing: Russell Crowe is going to be kicking Giger-styled xenomorph-ass in outer space. Think about it: R&R have been a tag team for the better part of the decade and they need a hit. Their take on Robin Hood might do it, but “Alien Vs Gladiator”? Now that’d be awesome! - Thanks, Allison

The Daily Telegraph: THERE are numerous ways to rev-up an NRL team before a big match, but Freddy Fittler's attempt to motivate his players last Monday night wasn't one of the more successful. Stories of coaches pasting negative newspaper articles on change-room walls to psych up the team are a dime a dozen. But Fittler tried to go one better at ANZ Stadium before his Roosters met the Rabbitohs. Pinned above each player's individual locker area were pictures of Souths gladiator Russell Crowe, in his infamous thumbs down pose, which was delivered by Rusty to his team from his private box at Souths' previous match against the Roosters. As a motivational tool it was a big failure as the Bunnies easily accounted for Freddy's boys. - Thanks, Allison

The LA Times: Lionsgate's new gamble: Russell Crowe teams up with Paul Haggis - "...So it seemed intriguing to me to read that Lionsgate, which has largely been focusing lately on genre thrillers and horror movies (along with its Tyler Perry films), was willing to greenlight a movie that looked exactly like the kind of picture that Hollywood studios shun these days: a serious character-driven drama. After all, it was Haggis himself who called the picture an exploration of the deeper themes of faith and belief, describing the deeper theme thusly: "Would you save the woman you loved if you knew that by doing so, you would turn into a man that a woman could no longer love?"  (Sounds like something Graham Greene might write.)" - Thanks, Steph
